Assignment: English Language Teacher Education: Facing Challenges, Forging Connections

We can keep the lamp burning by reflecting upon our actions in class and beliefs regarding teaching and learning a language.
Reflection is a key aspect in the formation of teacher identity and professional development since it enables us to think of new possibilities to act within the classroom.

More than a criticism of the KARDS model, I want to say that it is essential to take into account the emerge of post-method pedagogies and critical pedagogy in the ELT program and contextualize them with our own needs. Personally, I was not acquainted with these trends if it were not for the master's program.
Besides, ELT programs should provide prospective teacher the opportunity to imagine themselves as teachers since the first semester. They need to develop their own theory of practice by experiencing teaching.

Hi,
Here I present the questions that came to mind based on the discussions we had in class.

1. How to empower passive language teachers to transform their practices as educators?

2. How to eradicate the native speaker privilege in Colombia?

3. What are the characteristics and qualities language teachers required to be professionals in Colombia?

4. How to construct teacher identity through reflection?

5. What is the impact of narratives in the process of learning to teach?

6. What is the impact of narratives (stories) in the teacher identity construction within an ELT program?

7. What is the impact of anti-apprenticeship of observation in language teachers and STs´ teaching practices?
